Way back in Summer 2010, T. Williams sent us a deep house record he’d been working on with UK soul singer Terri Walker. He didn’t quite know where it fit, and wasn’t even sure we’d like it — but we snapped it up on the spot.

That November, we released ‘Heartbeat’ with no real expectations — we were three records into this whole label thing and didn’t know what we were doing, after all — but it was clear within weeks that this thing was moving.

The first record we’d done with T had been a hit with DJs in our extended circle, but this was something else: before we knew it, it had become a staple in Black British house raves and post-dubstep circles alike and was even becoming a fixture in North America and Europe. We were lucky enough to hear our first records in the wild played at clubs and festivals, but this was the first one that we started to hear coming out of cars.

Obviously, we need to mention Mosca at this point. His remix, where he condensed the eight-minute slow-burning original into a soulful dance-pop masterpiece, was the yang to the original’s yin — they were stronger together. By the end of the year, iTunes had named ‘Heartbeat’ the third best dance record of 2010. And the best part of 15 years on, it’s still a record we hear all the time: in clubs, on radio, on socials and yes, out of cars.

We’ve talked with T about re-releasing ‘Heartbeat’ so many times over the years, and finally settled on doing it in 2020 for the record’s 10th anniversary — but we all know what happened that year. So three years later, here were are: ‘Heartbeat’ re-issued and re-packaged for a new generation, complete with a new remix by DJ Q — who transforms it into the UK Garage masterpiece that it’s always had the potential to be.

We’ll be releasing some more remixes of ‘Heartbeat’ later this year, but for now: take some time to reacquaint yourself with a bonafide UK house classic. It hasn’t aged a bit!
